Kathryn Kates, TV and Film Actress Dies at 73

Kathryn Kates, actress who appeared in hit TV series including “Orange is the New Black,” “The Many saints of Newark” and “Seinfeld,” has died aged 73.

“Our mighty @officialkathrynkates has passed away. She will always be remembered and adored in our hearts as the powerful force of nature she was,” Headline Talent Agency announced Monday via Instagram.

“She loved this craft and had enough patience to fill 10 ships. A true icon. We will miss you.”

Kates moved Los Angeles from new York in 1974 to pursue her professional acting career. There she was an influential figure in the local theater scene, becoming one of the founders of the Colony Theatre in Burbank, California on her website her bio.

She relocated back to New York City in 2006, appearing in over 20 Broadway productions.

Recently, she played Angie DeCarlo in the 2021 film “The Many Saints of Newark,” a spin-off of the hit series “The Sopranos.”

“Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there,” reads an Instagram post on Sunday from the account @officialkathrynkates. “Keep me alive in your beautiful hearts with unforgettable memories. Teach others what you’ve learned from me and I will live in forever.”
