Acknowledging the challenges ahead, Pezeshkian reached out to all Iranians on Saturday, pledging his commitment. “I extend my hand towards you and swear on my honor that I will not leave you alone on this path. Don’t leave me alone,” he said.
World leaders have been quick to congratulate Pezeshkian on his triumph.
Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Pezeshkian, expressing hope that his presidency would strengthen Russia-Iran relations. Putin stated, “I hope that your tenure as president will contribute to a reinforcement of constructive bilateral cooperation between our friendly peoples.
Before the election, Putin met with interim Iranian President Mohammad Mokhber at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit in Astana, Kazakhstan. Russia and Iran have been discussing a comprehensive bilateral cooperation agreement, as per Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil praised Iran’s commitment to democracy during the two-round presidential vote. Gil’s statement read, “Venezuela expresses its conviction that the decision made by the Iranian people will contribute to the prosperity of this nation, as well as its consolidation as an emerging power in the nascent multipolar world.
Pezeshkian will receive the “absolute support” of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his government to expand relations and counter “the hegemonic pretensions that threaten multilateralism and world peace. Iran and Venezuela are close allies, having signed a 20-year strategic cooperation plan in 2022 during Maduro’s visit to Tehran.
Chinese President Xi Jinping told Pezeshkian, “I attach great importance to the development of China-Iran relations and am willing to work with the President to lead the China-Iran comprehensive strategic partnership towards deeper advancement.
Xi highlighted the long history of friendly exchanges between the two countries, saying that bilateral relations have maintained healthy and stable development for over half a century. He added, “Faced with complex regional and international situations, China and Iran have always supported each other, worked together and continued to consolidate strategic mutual trust.”
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his eagerness to work closely with Pezeshkian to strengthen their warm and long-standing bilateral relationship for the benefit of their peoples and the region.
Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev welcomed Pezeshkian’s electoral success, emphasizing Azerbaijan’s high regard for relations with Iran. Aliyev invited Pezeshkian to visit, saying, “I am confident that through our joint efforts, we will ensure further strengthening of the traditional friendly relations and the expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran in line with the interests of our peoples and countries.”
Iran’s election, originally scheduled for 2025, was held early following President Ebrahim Raisi’s death in a helicopter crash on May 19. Saudi Arabia’s King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman congratulated Pezeshkian, expressing their keenness on developing relations between their countries.
In March 2023, Iran and Saudi Arabia agreed to re-establish diplomatic relations in a China-brokered deal after years of tension. They have since increased regular contact to bolster relations.
Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid congratulated both Iran and the president-elect, expressing his desire to strengthen relations between the neighboring countries.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif looked forward to working closely with Pezeshkian, promoting peace and stability in the region.
Emir Sheikh Mishal al-Ahmad al-Sabah wished Pezeshkian a long and healthy life and more prosperity for Iran.
Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko referred to Pezeshkian’s win as “an unconditional victory of the Iranian people.”
Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani congratulated Pezeshkian and wished him success and further development of joint relations.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad described Iran as “one of the most important countries with which we are keen to ensure that the relationship is at its peak.”
