Metservice reports a slow-moving front in the southern parts of the Westland District, causing heavy rain in the Westland ranges.
A MetService spokesperson states, “A subtropical low will develop northeast of the country on Monday, bringing heavy rain to the northern and eastern North Island.”
The heaviest rain is anticipated in Gisborne and Hawke’s Bay on Tuesday and Wednesday.

A low-pressure system near the northeast North Island will bring rain in an easterly flow to the northern and eastern regions. Rainfall accumulations may reach warning amounts in Gisborne/Tairawhiti and Hawke’s Bay, with moderate confidence. The low-pressure system will remain north of the North Island, causing further rain in the eastern and northern areas. Low confidence for warning amounts of rain in Hawke’s Bay, Gisborne/Tairawhiti, and the Coromandel Peninsula.
Friday, May 24
A cold front followed by southerlies will move north over the South Island, while the North Island experiences a south-southeast flow. Low confidence for warning amounts of rain in northern Hawke’s Bay and Gisborne/Tairawhiti.
