Vice President Shettima Reveals Jonathan’s Alleged Removal Plot
Vice President Kashim Shettima disclosed Thursday that former President Goodluck Jonathan attempted to remove him from office during his tenure as Borno State governor. Shettima made these revelations at a book launch event in Abuja.
The Vice President spoke at the public presentation of “OPL 245: Inside Story of the $1.3 billion Nigeria Oil Block,” authored by former Justice Minister Mohammed Adoke. The event provided a platform for Shettima to share previously undisclosed details about political tensions during Jonathan’s administration.
Shettima served as Borno State governor from 2011 to 2019, a period that coincided with Jonathan’s presidency from 2010 to 2015. His governorship occurred during the height of Boko Haram insurgency in northeastern Nigeria, which created significant security challenges for the state.
The alleged removal attempt reportedly stemmed from political disagreements between the state government and the federal administration. Shettima’s disclosure adds new context to the complex political dynamics that characterized Jonathan’s presidency.
The Vice President’s comments came during discussions about governance challenges and political interference in Nigeria’s democratic processes. His revelations highlight ongoing tensions between federal and state governments in Nigeria’s political system.
Shettima currently serves as Vice President under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, having assumed office in May 2023. The book launch event attracted political figures and observers interested in Nigeria’s recent political history.
