UN Women Partners with WARIF to Combat Sexual Violence Through Door-to-Door Campaign in Ibadan
UN Women has launched a targeted house-to-house campaign in Ibadan to eliminate sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), partnering with the Women at Risk International Foundation (WARIF). The initiative brings anti-violence advocacy directly to residents’ doorsteps across Nigeria’s third-largest city.
The door-to-door approach aims to reach communities that traditional awareness campaigns often miss. WARIF, a leading Nigerian organization focused on supporting sexual violence survivors, brings specialized expertise to the partnership. The foundation operates survivor support centers and provides comprehensive services including medical care, legal aid, and psychological counseling.
Sexual and gender-based violence remains a critical challenge across Nigeria, with many cases unreported due to cultural stigma and limited access to support services. The house-to-house strategy allows advocates to engage families in private settings, potentially encouraging more victims to seek help.
The Ibadan campaign represents part of UN Women’s broader efforts to strengthen grassroots responses to SGBV throughout Nigeria. By working directly with local communities, the partnership seeks to change attitudes toward sexual violence while connecting survivors with essential services.
This collaborative approach combines UN Women’s global expertise in gender equality with WARIF’s deep understanding of local contexts. The initiative focuses on prevention through education while ensuring survivors know where to access immediate support and long-term assistance.
