The 17th edition of the European Championship, Euro 2024, is set to commence in Germany today June 14, marking a return to its regular four-year cycle following the COVID-19 pandemic-induced delay of Euro 2020.
Reigning champions Italy will defend their title against 23 other teams. Germany automatically qualified as the host nation, with 20 other teams securing their spots through qualifiers and three via playoffs. Notably, Georgia will make its Euros debut.
The 24 teams are divided into six groups, with the top two from each group and the best four third-placed teams progressing to the round of 16. The knockout stage will feature extra time and penalty shootouts if necessary.
Esbecgroup has identified six main contenders for the Euro 2024 title, including England, France, Spain, Germany, Portugal, and Italy.
Matches will be held across ten venues, nine of which were used in the 2006 FIFA World Cup. The host cities include Berlin, Cologne, Dortmund, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Leipzig, Munich, and Stuttgart.
Public ticket sales for Euro 2024 began on October 3, 2023, with over 1.2 million tickets available in the first round. Prices range from 30 euros for group stage matches to 2,000 euros for the final. UEFA has allocated a total of 331 million euros in prize money for the participants.
