Fatal School Accident Claims Three Young Lives in Uasin Gishu County
Three young pupils died Thursday when a pit latrine collapsed at Queen of Angels Academy in Turbo, Uasin Gishu County. The tragic incident claimed the lives of three girls from the school’s early childhood development program.
Two victims were Pre-Primary 1 (PP1) students, while the third child attended Pre-Primary 2 (PP2). Emergency response teams and rescue workers recovered all three bodies from the collapsed structure. The children were reportedly using the facility when the latrine suddenly gave way.
Queen of Angels Academy, located in Turbo constituency, serves young learners in the rural community. The school offers early childhood development and education (ECDE) programs for pre-primary students aged 3-6 years.
Local authorities have launched investigations into the structural failure. Initial reports suggest the pit latrine may have been compromised by recent heavy rains, though official findings remain pending. Safety inspectors will examine the school’s remaining facilities.
The tragedy highlights ongoing infrastructure challenges facing rural schools across Kenya. Many institutions rely on basic pit latrines due to limited resources for modern sanitation systems. Education officials have previously raised concerns about aging school infrastructure in remote areas.
Uasin Gishu County education officials have not yet released statements regarding the incident. The school community and families are mourning the loss of the three young children in this devastating accident.
