NNNs executive team a shock to many, analyst says

University of Namibia lecturer and political analyst Gurvy Kavei has described president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s newly announced Cabinet as a choice that was difficult to predict for many Namibians. Kavei said this in an interview with Nampa on Sunday, when approached for his views on the newly appointed ministers and their portfolios. “What came out was a shocker to everyone. Prior to the inauguration of the ministers, there were many media speculations as to who would feature in Nandi-Ndaitwah’s administration, but what came out was a big shock to everybody,” he said. He noted that Nandi-Ndaitwah during the swearing-in ceremony on Saturday highlighted that while Namibia is rich in resources, the country faces challenges in management. Kavei said he believes the newly sworn-in president’s selection of ministers aligns with this perspective

A federal judge temporarily paused the Trump administration’s “illegal” reductions in force and reinstated approximately 20,000 probationary government employees across 18 agencies who had been terminated. U.S. District Judge James Bredar — an Obama appointee — concluded that the Trump administration failed to provide the legally required advanced notice before it tried to conduct “massive layoffs.” The judge also prohibited the Trump administration from conducting future mass firings without giving notice. “When the federal government terminates large numbers of its employees, including those still on probation because they were recently hired or promoted, it must follow certain rules,” Bredar wrote. The ruling applies to 18 of the federal agencies named as defendants in the case except for the Defense Department, the National Archives and the Office of Personnel Management. The

Peter Hoskins Business reporter, BBC News US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has said President Donald Trump will “probably” announce a deal to reduce tariffs on Canada and Mexico on Wednesday. “Both the Canadians and Mexicans were on the phone with me all day today trying to show that they’ll do better” on reducing the flow of fentanyl into the US, Lutnick said in an interview with Fox Business Network. But Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Mélanie Joly told the BBC’s Newsnight that her office had not been contacted about the plan. Canada and Mexico announced retaliatory import levies on the US after Washington’s 25% tariffs on its two neighbours came into effect on Tuesday. Lutnick made clear that he expected the US tariffs to be lowered rather than paused. “I

Trump says Ukraine’s Zelenskyy wants to sign mineral deal

He said the country’s president sent him a letter saying so before his speech. President Donald Trump signaled another twist in the back-and-forth over his effort to force a negotiated end to the Ukraine-Russia war during his speech Tuesday night. As he first mentioned Ukraine 90 minutes into his address, Trump provided an update following last week’s blowup in the Oval Office between him and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Zelenskyy left the White House after the shouting match and did not sign an anticipated deal that would have given the U.S. rare minerals from Ukraine. Trump claimed during his speech Zelenskyy sent him a letter just before his speech indicating that he was ready to come back to the negotiating table and was willing to sign the agreement to give

John Oliver has weighed in on Donald Trump and Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelenskyy‘s clash at the White House on Friday, saying “the whole spectacle was awful.” During the televised meeting, Trump called Zelenskyy “disrespectful” for not wanting to make a peace deal with Russia on his terms. Vice President JD Vance also urged Zelenskyy to thank Trump for his efforts, asking him: “Have you said thank you once this entire meeting?” Despite the conversation going off the rails, Trump — in a nod to his reality TV roots –acknowledged, “This is gonna be great television, I will say that.” But, according to Oliver, “that depends.” Popular on Variety “Is watching the president shit on a weaker ally for not wanting to be conquered while his goon VP tries to see

The U.S. Supreme Court temporarily delayed a court-mandated deadline requiring the Trump administration to pay nearly $2 billion to contracted aid organizations for work they already completed. Chief Justice John Roberts, in an order Wednesday night, stayed a lower court order that the administration pay out $1.9 billion by midnight. In his order, Roberts asked the aid groups that sued the Trump administration to provide a response by noon Friday after which the court will decide its next steps. Roberts’ order came after the Trump administration sought emergency intervention by the high court after a panel of federal appeals court judges denied the administration’s earlier request to push the deadline. Acting Solicitor General Sarah Harris asked the justices to impose an administrative stay — freezing the status quo for a
