The next time Martin Bakole ventures to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia it will be markedly different from the last time. In May, the month he returns, he will know in advance when he is to travel and will be able to plan accordingly. He will also presumably arrive at the airport in more suitable attire – that is, not sweating in tight jeans – and have the luxury of a direct flight and the freedom to stroll from the departure lounge to the gate without fear of missing his flight and ruining everybody’s fun. Last time, in February, Bakole was unprepared and in a great hurry. He smiled through it all, of course, yet the slapdash nature of his arrival in Riyadh was evident in both what he wore and how

Lamont Roach Jnr delivered a performance oozing with confidence in his near upset of Gervonta “Tank” Davis last Saturday night, and as he awaits justice from their controversial majority draw, he again feels things will fall in his favor. In an exclusive conversation with BoxingScene on Thursday, Roach, 25-1-2 (10 KOs), said he both expects Davis to embrace the option for a rematch in their contract while also believing the New York State Athletic Commission will provide a fair response to the events that transpired in the ninth round at Barclays Center. “I hope a rematch happens sooner rather than later. Everybody’s still talking about the fight, and it’s five days later,” Roach said. “It’s been a huge spectacle, a topic of discussion – the review by the commission and

The fight was on the preliminary undercard of Denys Berinchyk-Keyshawn Davis at The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City. While Mason’s last bout in November was among the best brief shootouts in recent history – a two-round win over Yohan Vasquez in which both men hit the canvas – this match was mostly one-way traffic in favor of the 20-year-old Mason, who is now 17-0 (15 KOs). Mason showed patience and worked behind his jab, hurting
