Senate President Akpabio Removes Senator Natasha from Key Committee Leadership
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has removed Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from her position as Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs). The leadership change was announced during the latest Senate session.
Senator Aniekan Bassey of Cross River State will replace Akpoti-Uduaghan as the new committee chair. The appointment takes effect immediately following Akpabio’s official announcement to the Senate chamber.
The Diaspora and NGOs committee oversees critical issues affecting Nigerian citizens living abroad and regulates non-governmental organizations operating within the country. This committee plays a vital role in diaspora engagement policies and NGO oversight frameworks.
Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District, had served as the committee’s chairperson since the current Senate session began. The reasons behind her removal were not specified in the official announcement.
Senator Bassey brings legislative experience to his new role as committee chair. His appointment represents a shift in the committee’s leadership structure under the current Senate administration.
The leadership change affects one of the Senate’s important committees responsible for diaspora affairs and civil society organization oversight. This development comes as the Senate continues its legislative agenda under Akpabio’s leadership.
The transition is expected to proceed smoothly as Bassey assumes his new responsibilities overseeing diaspora and NGO-related legislative matters.
