Sarah Cohen Denied Bond Again in Dutch Tycoon Murder Case

Sarah Wairimu Kamotho will remain behind bars after Kibera High Court rejected her second bail application Tuesday. The widow faces murder charges in connection with her Dutch husband Tob Cohen’s death.

Justice Diana Mochache denied the bond request following strong opposition from prosecution lawyers. Kamotho will continue her detention at Langata Women’s Prison until her defense team can present new arguments for release.

The case centers on the death of Tob Cohen, a wealthy Dutch businessman whose murder shocked Kenya’s expatriate community. Kamotho, who uses her late husband’s surname professionally, has been fighting for pretrial release since her initial arrest.

Court records show this marks the second time prosecutors successfully blocked Kamotho’s bail application. The prosecution’s opposition suggests they view her as either a flight risk or someone who might interfere with ongoing investigations.

The murder case has drawn significant public attention due to Cohen’s prominent business profile and the couple’s troubled marriage. Legal experts note that repeated bail denials often indicate prosecutors possess substantial evidence against defendants.

Kamotho’s legal team must now decide whether to file additional bail applications or focus on trial preparation. The case highlights Kenya’s judicial system’s approach to serious criminal charges involving foreign nationals.

The trial date remains pending as both sides prepare their arguments for what promises to be a closely watched murder case.
