Rep. Agbese Champions Apa State Creation and New Local Government Areas in Benue

House of Representatives member Philip Agbese has publicly endorsed the proposed creation of Apa State and additional local government areas within Benue State. The federal lawmaker announced his support during recent discussions about Nigeria’s administrative restructuring.

Agbese argues that creating Apa State would bring governance closer to the people in the affected regions. The proposed state would encompass specific areas currently under Benue’s administration, though exact boundaries remain under review by relevant committees.

The representative also backs establishing new local government areas across Benue State. These additional LGAs would reportedly improve service delivery and enhance democratic participation at the grassroots level. Local communities have long advocated for increased administrative presence in their areas.

Nigeria’s constitution requires specific procedures for creating new states and local governments. The National Assembly must approve such proposals through a two-thirds majority vote. Additionally, affected state assemblies must provide consent before implementation.

Agbese’s endorsement adds legislative weight to ongoing campaigns for administrative expansion in Benue. Similar proposals have emerged from other Nigerian states seeking to divide existing territories for better governance.

The lawmaker emphasized that proper consultation with all stakeholders remains essential. He stressed that any new administrative units must demonstrate economic viability and clear developmental benefits for affected populations.
