Police Hunt 50-Year-Old Man Accused of Impregnating 12-Year-Old Girl in Ghana

Police in Ghana’s Northern Region have launched an active manhunt for a 50-year-old grinding mill operator accused of impregnating a 12-year-old girl. The suspect, identified as Mba Abukari, allegedly committed the crime in Zogbeli, a suburb of Tamale.

The Northern Regional Police Command confirmed the investigation after receiving a formal complaint. Madam Mariam Adam, a porridge seller serving as the victim’s guardian, filed charges against Abukari for defilement and impregnation of the minor child.

Authorities have not disclosed the victim’s identity to protect her privacy, following standard protocols for cases involving minors. The suspect reportedly fled the area after the allegations surfaced, prompting police to issue a warrant for his arrest.

Child defilement cases have drawn increased attention across Ghana, with law enforcement agencies prioritizing swift action against perpetrators. The legal age of consent in Ghana is 16 years old, making sexual contact with the 12-year-old victim a serious criminal offense.

Police investigators are working to locate Abukari and gather additional evidence to support the case. The victim is reportedly receiving medical care and counseling support through local social services.

The Northern Regional Police Command has urged community members with information about Abukari’s whereabouts to contact authorities immediately. Officials emphasized their commitment to prosecuting the case fully once the suspect is apprehended.
