Police Officer Murdered Outside Bar in Migori County

A Kenya Revenue Authority police officer was found stabbed to death outside a bar in Muhuru Bay, Migori County, on Friday, July 11. Constable Gilbert Kibet, who was stationed at the KRA Muhuru Bay office, died from multiple stab wounds in what police describe as an attack with unclear motives.

Kibet’s body was discovered outside the entertainment establishment hours after the fatal assault occurred around 4 a.m. Local authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the officer’s death, though no arrests have been announced.

The incident highlights ongoing security concerns in the region, where violent crimes against law enforcement personnel have raised alarm among police leadership. Muhuru Bay, located in Nyatike constituency, sits along the Kenya-Tanzania border and serves as a key revenue collection point for cross-border trade.

Police have not released details about potential suspects or whether the attack was targeted specifically at Kibet due to his law enforcement role. The motive remains under investigation as detectives work to piece together the events leading to the officer’s death.

Kibet’s murder adds to growing concerns about officer safety in remote border areas where security personnel often work with limited backup. The Kenya Revenue Authority has not yet issued an official statement regarding the loss of their officer or additional security measures for remaining staff.
