Linda Yaccarino Steps Down as CEO of Elon Musk’s X Platform
Linda Yaccarino resigned as CEO of X on Wednesday morning, ending her 2-year tenure leading Elon Musk’s social media platform. The departure marks another leadership change for the company formerly known as Twitter.
Yaccarino took the helm of X in June 2022, shortly after Musk’s $44 billion acquisition of Twitter. She joined from NBCUniversal, where she served as chairman of global advertising and partnerships for 11 years. Her hiring was seen as crucial for restoring advertiser confidence after major brands fled the platform following Musk’s content moderation changes.
The former NBC executive faced significant challenges during her leadership. X experienced a 50% drop in advertising revenue in 2023, according to Musk’s previous statements. Major advertisers including Disney, Apple, and IBM suspended campaigns amid concerns over content appearing alongside their ads.
Yaccarino’s departure comes as X continues struggling with revenue recovery and user engagement. The platform has implemented subscription services and creator monetization programs to offset advertising losses. However, competition from Meta’s Threads and other platforms has intensified.
No immediate replacement has been announced. Musk, who owns X through his holding company, remains heavily involved in daily operations. The billionaire has not publicly commented on Yaccarino’s resignation.
X’s future direction under new leadership remains uncertain as the platform seeks sustainable revenue streams beyond traditional advertising models.
