Nairobi – The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has strongly refuted allegations by Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah that one of its vehicles was involved in the alleged abduction of cartoonist Gideon Kibet, also known as Kibet Bull.
The claims surfaced after Senator Omtatah revealed details of a meeting with Kibet at Taj Towers, during which his team reportedly spotted a white Subaru equipped with communication gear parked near the venue.
According to Omtatah, the vehicle, which he suspects is associated with the DCI, arrived shortly after Kibet joined him and left only after their meeting concluded.
How did DCI respond to Okiya Omtatah’s claims?
In a statement, DCI Director John Marete dismissed the allegations as “unfounded” and “sensational,” emphasising that the DCI had no connection to the vehicle.
“Firstly, we wish to clarify that the DCI categorically denies any association with the vehicle in question. The suggestion that a vehicle belonging to the DCI was involved in any alleged abduction is not only unfounded but also sensationalises a sensitive issue that is currently under thorough investigation,” Marete said.
The DCI confirmed that it is aware of Kibet’s mysterious disappearance and assured the public that investigations into the matter are underway.
Marete echoed Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja’s statement, asserting that all police operations comply with constitutional and legal standards.
The DCI emphasised its commitment to upholding the law, stating that no extrajudicial actions would be tolerated within its ranks.
It assured the public of transparency in handling such cases and pledged to pursue justice without prejudice or compromise.
The DCI further urged members of the public with credible information regarding the disappearance to come forward and cooperate with relevant authorities.
“The integrity of our investigations is paramount, and we take any attempts to undermine this process seriously,” Marete added.
