Kebbi Government Dismisses Ex-AGF Malami's APC-to-ADC Defection as 'Politically Inconsequential'

Kebbi State Government Dismisses Former Attorney General’s Party Defection

Kebbi State officials have dismissed former Attorney General Abubakar Malami’s defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as politically meaningless.

The state government expressed satisfaction with Malami’s departure, claiming the former federal minister holds no political influence in the northwestern state. Ahmed Idris, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Nasir Idris, delivered the government’s official response to the high-profile party switch.

“We are happy Malami left APC for ADC. He has no political value,” the government stated through its spokesperson. The administration characterized the defection as “politically inconsequential” and insisted it poses no concern to state leadership or residents.

Malami, who served as Attorney General of the Federation under former President Muhammadu Buhari, recently joined the opposition ADC party. The Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) had been a prominent APC member before his political realignment.

The Kebbi government’s harsh assessment reflects growing tensions between the former federal minister and his home state’s political establishment. State officials appear confident that Malami’s departure will not impact APC’s standing in Kebbi.

This development highlights internal divisions within Nigeria’s political landscape as parties position themselves ahead of future elections. The public dismissal of Malami’s political relevance signals the state government’s attempt to minimize any potential fallout from his defection.
