Jordan Henderson Leaves Ajax After Mutual Contract Termination
Jordan Henderson has officially parted ways with Ajax following a mutual agreement to terminate his contract one year early. The 35-year-old England international joined the Dutch club in January 2024 on a deal that originally ran through June 2026.
The former Liverpool captain’s departure comes after just 11 months with Ajax, marking another brief chapter in his recent career moves. Henderson had previously left Liverpool in July 2023 for Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq before making his way to Amsterdam.
Ajax confirmed the mutual termination allows both parties to pursue new opportunities. The decision appears amicable, with neither side citing specific reasons for the early exit. Henderson made 32 appearances across all competitions for Ajax, contributing 2 goals and 4 assists during his tenure.
The midfielder’s Ajax stint followed his controversial move to Saudi Arabia, which had drawn criticism from fans due to his previous support for LGBTQ+ rights. His time in the Middle East lasted only six months before the Netherlands move materialized.
Henderson now becomes a free agent, available to join any club without transfer fees. Several Championship and MLS clubs have reportedly expressed interest in the experienced midfielder. His departure leaves Ajax seeking midfield reinforcements as they continue their Eredivisie campaign.
The veteran player earned 81 caps for England and captained Liverpool to Premier League and Champions League glory during his successful Anfield career.
