Jon Voight has publicly criticized his daughter, Angelina Jolie, for her views on the Israel-Palestine conflict. He claims that her perspective has been “influenced by antisemitic people.”
The Midnight Cowboy actor and Jolie, who he shares with his late ex-wife Marcheline Bertrand, have had a tumultuous relationship in the past.
In November, Jolie, a renowned humanitarian activist and former UNHCR special envoy, posted a message accusing Israel of “deliberately bombing children, women, families” in violation of international law.
Voight, a fervent Israel supporter, responded with a strong statement, expressing his disappointment in Jolie’s views.
In a recent interview with Variety, Voight further condemned Jolie’s stance, suggesting that “she has been exposed to propaganda.”
“She’s been influenced by antisemitic people,” he said. “Angie has a connection to the UN, and she’s enjoyed speaking out for refugees. But these people are not refugees.”
A source close to Jolie told Variety that the Maleficent actor “wishes [Voight] well but does not speak about him publicly.”
Jolie’s representatives have been contacted for comment.
Despite Voight’s disapproval, Jolie continues to advocate for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
On October 7, around 1,400 Israelis, many of them civilians, were killed when Hamas launched a surprise attack. Since then, Gaza’s Health Ministry reports over 39,000 Palestinians have died due to Israeli forces in the ongoing conflict.
In November, Jolie wrote on Instagram, “What happened in Israel is an act of terror. But that cannot justify the innocent lives lost in bombing a civilian population in Gaza that has nowhere to go, no access to food or water, no possibility of evacuation.”
Jolie emphasized her focus on people displaced by violence, highlighting Gaza’s population of over 2 million, half of whom are children living under severe conditions.
She added, “Humanity demands an immediate ceasefire. Palestinian and Israeli lives – and the lives of all people globally – matter equally.
Jolie and Voight reconciled after her mother’s death in 2007. In 2017, Jolie told The Hollywood Reporter that they now have a good relationship, stating that they “have gotten to know each other – through grandchildren now.”
