Grok AI Chatbot Set to Launch in Tesla Vehicles Within Days
Tesla vehicles will soon feature Grok, the AI chatbot developed by Elon Musk’s xAI company. Musk announced the integration Thursday morning on X, stating the rollout would happen “very soon” and “next week at the latest.”
The billionaire entrepreneur’s announcement marks a significant convergence between his multiple tech ventures. Grok, launched by xAI in November 2023, will become the first major AI assistant integrated directly into Tesla’s vehicle systems. The chatbot currently serves as a premium feature for X subscribers, offering conversational AI capabilities with what xAI describes as real-time information access.
Tesla’s existing infotainment system already includes voice commands and internet connectivity through its touchscreen interface. Adding Grok could enhance driver and passenger interaction with vehicle functions, navigation, and entertainment systems. However, Musk provided no specific details about Grok’s functionality within Tesla vehicles or safety protocols for driver use.
The integration represents Musk’s broader strategy of connecting his business empire, which includes Tesla, X (formerly Twitter), SpaceX, and xAI. Tesla owners have previously gained access to features from Musk’s other companies, including Starlink satellite internet connectivity in some markets.
xAI, founded in July 2023, positions itself as an alternative to established AI companies like OpenAI and Google. The company raised $6 billion in Series B funding in May 2024, reaching a $24 billion valuation.
