Dangote Refinery Cuts Petrol Price by ₦20 Per Litre
Nigeria’s largest refinery has delivered relief to fuel consumers with an immediate price reduction. The Dangote Petroleum Refinery announced Tuesday night that its ex-depot petrol price dropped from ₦840 to ₦820 per litre, marking a ₦20 decrease that takes effect immediately.
Company spokesperson Anthony Chiejina confirmed the new pricing structure in the Tuesday evening announcement. The reduction applies to the ex-depot rate, which represents the price at which fuel marketers purchase petrol directly from the refinery before distribution to retail stations nationwide.
This price adjustment comes as Nigeria continues grappling with fuel supply challenges and fluctuating petroleum costs. The Dangote refinery, which began operations earlier this year, represents Africa’s largest oil refining facility and has been positioned as a key solution to Nigeria’s fuel import dependency.
The ₦20 reduction could translate to lower pump prices at filling stations across the country, though final retail costs depend on additional factors including transportation, marketing margins, and dealer markups. Fuel marketers typically add their operational costs to the ex-depot price before selling to consumers.
The timing of this price cut signals the refinery’s growing influence on Nigeria’s domestic fuel market. As the facility ramps up production capacity, industry observers expect continued price adjustments based on crude oil costs and operational efficiency improvements at the Lagos-based refinery.
