Golf is the hardest sport to watch for fans of the game. This isn’t the case because of the quality of the game, but the manner in which it is played. An entire football game takes place on one singular field. Basketball belongs on a court. A baseball diamond can be seen in totality as well. You get the point. In golf, there are countless balls in play at one single time and on a number of different holes. No one pair of eyes can observe all of the action simultaneously. Beyond this particular challenge, golf broadcasts have made it even more difficult to watch in recent years. The NFL Combine is wrapping up and it’s a good time to look back at the week that was. Who helped themselves with a strong showing? Who might not have put up the numbers they wanted? A lot of the important stuff at the Combine happens behind closed doors, but what happens on the field makes or breaks prospects every year. One note from me before we dive in. It’s important not to “double count” information from the Combine. What I mean is that if we’re already ranking a prospect as a great athlete and he tests like a great athlete, we shouldn’t automatically raise him in our rankings. Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty plans to take pre-draft visits and meet with the Cowboys and Bears. Per Ryan Fowler, ten teams were scheduled to meet with Jeanty at the Combine including the Giants, Broncos, Vikings, Steelers, Colts, Bears, Chargers, Ravens and Saints. Fowler later added the Commanders have scheduled a formal interview. Jeanty is widely considered to be one the best running back prospects in recent years and could end up being a top-10 pick when all is said and done. When this women’s college basketball season began, most folks figured that the race for the national player of the year would come down to three returning guards: UConn’s Paige Bueckers, USC’s JuJu Watkins and Notre Dame’s Hannah Hidalgo. And indeed, all three players have been mightily impressive this season and likely secured spots on the All-American First Team. A fourth player quickly rose to the top to join them in that debate and conversation in UCLA center Lauren Betts, who is averaging about 20 points and 10 rebounds per game and is the nucleus of a Bruins’ squad that started the year 23-0 and looks like a legit contender for the national title.
