PM criticises those “spreading lies and misinformation” over grooming gangs The prime minister has attacked politicians and activists “spreading lies and misinformation” over grooming gangs. It comes after multi-billionaire Elon Musk accused Sir Keir Starmer of being “complicit in the rape of Britain” during his tenure as director of public prosecutions (DPP) for failing to tackle grooming gangs. Senior Conservatives and Reform UK MPs have also spent the week calling for a national inquiry into child sexual exploitation. But Sir Keir said: “Those who are spreading lies and misinformation as far and as wide as possible are not interested in victims, they’re interested in themselves.” He said the online debate had “crossed a line”, resulting in threats against MPs, including Safeguarding Minister Jess Phillips. Sir Keir went on to accuse

Police are poring over what they believe are letters left by Matthew Livelsberger — the driver of the Tesla Cybertruck that exploded on New Year’s Day outside the Trump International Las Vegas Hotel — on a phone in the destroyed vehicle, authorities said Friday. Livelsberger shared personal and political “grievances” in the recovered messages and called the attack a “wake up call,” police said. “I know everyone is very eager to try to understand and be able to explain what happened,” Las Vegas Assistant Sheriff Dori Koren said during a press briefing on Friday. “We still have a large volume of data to go through, a lot of content to go through.” Livelsberger, an active-duty Army soldier, said the country was being led by the “weak” and those out to

The furore over a suspected cat killer lurking on a campus in Kuala Lumpur intensified on Friday after the discovery of another “extensively mutilated” feline enraged animal lovers who have already rescued dozens of cats. In the latest incident, the Universiti Malaya Student Union (UMSU) said a cat was found on Thursday outside the medicine faculty with its internal organs exposed. Malaysia is a cat-loving nation where pet ownership has soared since the pandemic, largely influenced by its Muslim majority, who generally favour cats over dogs due to cultural and religious beliefs, including the Prophet Muhammad’s reputed fondness for the felines. Animal rights activists and members of the public descended upon the campus on December 22 and rescued 22 cats, fearing they could be targeted next. Their intervention came after
New Orleans attacker did not act alone, FBI believes Getty Images The suspect in the New Orleans attack that killed 15 people on New Year’s Day did not act alone, US investigators believe. Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old US citizen, is believed to have driven a pick-up truck into a crowd on a busy New Orleans street, before exiting the vehicle and firing a weapon. He was shot dead by police at the scene. The FBI says an Islamic State (IS) group flag was found inside the vehicle he was driving, while two improvised explosive devices were found nearby. FBI assistant special agent Alethea Duncan said the agency did not believe Jabbar was “solely responsible” and were investigating the incident as an “act of terrorism”. President Joe Biden said investigators were
An Army veteran who was “hell-bent” on killing as many people as possible drove a rented pickup truck around barricades and plowed his vehicle through a crowd of New Year’s revelers on Bourbon Street in New Orleans at a high rate of speed, leaving at least 15 dead and injuring dozens of others early Wednesday, city and federal officials said. After mowing down numerous people over a three-block stretch on the famed thoroughfare while firing shots into the crowd, the suspect — identified by sources as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42 — allegedly got out of the truck wielding an assault rifle and opened fire on police officers, law enforcement officials briefed on the incident told ABC News. Officers returned fire, killing Jabbar, a U.S.-born citizen from Texas, sources said. At least
Ukrainian forces have captured an injured North Korean soldier who was sent to support Russia’s war, South Korea’s spy agency confirmed Friday.
