‘Suspicious package’ found outside US embassy in London

LONDON — A suspicious package was discovered outside the United States embassy in London on Friday morning, police said. The London Metropolitan Police immediately closed Ponton Road outside of the embassy in “an abundance of caution,” according to their statement, before they destroyed it in a controlled explosion. “We’re aware of speculation online about an incident in the vicinity of the US Embassy in Nine Elms,” the Met Police said. “Cordons are in place in the area as a precaution while officers investigate a suspect package.” Authorities updated the situation approximately an hour later after reports of a “loud bang” began circulating online. An airport in South Korea has defended subjecting a woman to an invasive body search on suspicion of being a drug mule that left her with vaginal bleeding. Customs officials intercepted the passenger from the Philippines when she transited through Daegu airport last month after a scanner indicated she was carrying drugs in her luggage. The traveller said the detected item was a liquid contained in e-cigarettes intended for her personal use, prompting officers to deploy a different device to frisk the visitor. Thailand sentences alleged cyanide serial killer to death

A Thai woman believed to be among the worst serial killers in the kingdom’s history was convicted and sentenced to death Wednesday for poisoning a friend with cyanide, in the first of her 14 murder trials. Sararat Rangsiwuthaporn, 36, an online gambling addict, is accused of swindling thousands of dollars from her victims before killing them with the chemical. A court in Bangkok convicted her Wednesday for fatally poisoning her friend Siriporn Kanwong. The two met up near Bangkok in April last year to release fish into the Mae Klong river as part of a Buddhist ritual. Siriporn collapsed and died shortly afterwards and investigators found traces of cyanide in her body. Police were then able to link Sararat to previously unsolved cyanide poisonings going back as far as 2015
