Canada Raises Express Entry Financial Requirements to ₦17 Million for New Immigrants
Canada has increased its Express Entry immigration financial requirements, setting new proof-of-funds thresholds for prospective immigrants. The updated requirements took effect on July 7, 2025, impacting applicants under the Federal Skilled Worker and Federal Skilled Trades programs.
Single applicants must now demonstrate proof of funds totaling ₦17 million (approximately $10,400 CAD). This represents a significant increase from previous financial thresholds, reflecting Canada’s adjustment to current economic conditions and cost of living changes.
The Express Entry system manages applications for three federal economic immigration programs. These include the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class. The proof-of-funds requirement ensures newcomers can support themselves upon arrival in Canada.
Immigration officials require applicants to show accessible funds beyond travel costs and immigration fees. The money must be available for immediate use when landing in Canada. Bank statements, certificates of deposit, and other financial documents serve as acceptable proof.
This adjustment aligns with Canada’s broader immigration strategy to attract skilled workers while ensuring they possess adequate financial resources. The country continues processing Express Entry applications despite the increased requirements, maintaining its commitment to welcoming qualified immigrants who can contribute to the Canadian economy and integrate successfully into their new communities.
