The government plans to connect at least 10 million customers to the electricity grid by the year 2025, the Principal Secretary in the State Department for Energy under the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum Alex Wachira has revealed. As the country gears towards the commemoration of the International Day of Minority next week, the Yiaku community in Laikipia County have been assured of allocation of government opportunities through affirmative action. Head of Public Service, Felix Koskei, speaking at Kurikuri, Laikipia North sub county said that Yiaku people would get equal share of employment in the public service just like any other communities in the country. “Despite that the economy has been developing in a slow pace, we have to do affirmative action. When an opportunity arises, people who have been sidelined like Yiaku need to be supported; when we plan for others, we plan for Yiaku too,” said Koskei. Murang’a County Departments of Health, Agriculture, and Environment in collaboration with key stakeholders have launched and disseminated the updated and costed County Antimicrobial Stewardship Interagency Committee (CASIC) Work plan for 2024-2026. This comprehensive “One Health” approach launched sets out targeted actions to advance the county’s strategic goals in combating Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). Speaking during the launch, Dr Loise Kariuki, a clinical pharmacist and an AMR vocal person in the county, explained that AMR occurs when medicines such as antibiotics that are used to treat infections stop working as well as they used to.
