Is Trump reining in Musk after a cabinet showdown with secretaries?

Elon Musk was also present at President Donald Trump's first cabinet meeting on 26 February

Trump says cabinet will cut staff with Musk ‘watching’ US President Donald Trump called a meeting of his cabinet secretaries on Thursday to discuss Elon Musk and his efforts to slash government spending and personnel numbers. It turned heated, according to media reports. Musk accused Secretary of State Marco Rubio of failing to cut enough staff at the state department, reports the New York Times. The tech mogul told Rubio he was “good on TV”, according to the newspaper, pointedly skipping any praise of his work as America’s top diplomat. The billionaire also clashed with Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy over whether Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (Doge) task force had tried to lay off air traffic controllers who are already in short supply in the Federal Aviation Administration, according to

It’s OK For EVs To Be ‘Worse’ Than Gas Cars

It’s OK For EVs To Be ‘Worse’ Than Gas Cars

The primary reasons for China’s EV market dominance are myriad and well-trod. China put serious government money behind EVs. It cut red tape, incentivized buyers, and provided cheap property. Homegrown companies with minimal or no experience building ICE vehicles saw the transition as an opportunity, not a chore, as many Western companies clearly perceive it. Yet one factor is as under-covered as it is important. A far larger proportion of Chinese EV buyers are first-time car buyers. Many more had owned only one or two cars before. That’s key for one main reason: In China, EVs were free from much of the baggage still weighing them down here.  Photo by: InsideEVs Ford’s CEO recently called the economics of large SUV EVs “unresolvable.” I agree, which is why EREVs and hybrids

Frank Lampard reborn: The inside story of his second coming at Coventry – thanks to a chat with Pep Guardiola, killing off egos and the shocking revelation at Chelsea that changed his entire managerial style

Frank Lampard is sitting behind a small table in a small room and is poking a bit of fun at himself. Superstitions? Yeah, he’s had a few. ‘Yeah I used to,’ Lampard laughs. ‘I used to eat the same meal in the same proportions and then walk the dog the same walk, the same laps of the park. I had a certain order of putting my boots on and putting my kit on. ‘But it became really consuming because then you lose or play badly and you reboot a few of them and then it becomes a continuing nonsense. ‘Having said that, I still retain a few of them in my own way here but I am trying to get them out of my head because it can make life

Washington Commanders strike key deal with linebacker Bobby Wagner for 2025 season

Bobby Wagner’s tenure in Washington isn’t over yet. The veteran middle linebacker and heart of the Commanders’ defense has agreed on a contract for next season, according to a person with knowledge of the move. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Thursday because the deal had not yet been announced. Set to turn 35 this summer, Wagner led the Commanders with 132 tackles during the regular season and was named to his 10th Pro Bowl. He made 25 more during their playoff run as the centerpiece of a much-improved defense. The well-respected veteran keyed a unit that went from last in the league before he and several newcomers arrived to finish 13th under first-year coach Dan Quinn and defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. ‘He’s a

The result set a new Champions League record and means that Mikel Arteta’s men already have one foot firmly in the quarter-finals. Speaking of looking forward, the summer transfer window is edging closer, as is the conclusion of Arsenal’s hunt for a new sporting director. Andrea Berta is the

All reason and evidence tells us that Manchester United should sack Ruben Amorim – here’s the alarming reason why they won’t, writes IAN LADYMAN

All reason and evidence tells us that Manchester United should sack Ruben Amorim – here’s the alarming reason why they won’t, writes IAN LADYMAN

Football managers usually get sacked when clubs get desperate. At Manchester United, it may be the other way round. United are desperate, all right. Desperate not to go back to square one. Desperate not to have to start all over again. Desperate not to admit they’ve got it wrong once more. It’s all this that stands in favour of Ruben Amorim and a stay at Old Trafford beyond the summer. What it’s not in his favour – so far at least – is the football. Sometimes it’s worth writing some truths down, or saying them out loud, to believe and appreciate their sheer gravity. This is where we are with United. Amorim’s team are unfathomably poor to the point where we are almost immune to it and accepting of it.

Almost all of them were freed as part of ceasefire deals between Israel and Hamas. During the meeting

Mass exodus of immigration officials could delay millions of deportations

Mass exodus of immigration officials could delay millions of deportations

Earlier this month, Kerry Doyle sat in a Boston-area courtroom to observe a routine deportation hearing — one of thousands of similar proceedings that take place in immigration courts across the country each day. It was the final step before Doyle, 59, would herself join the ranks of America’s roughly 700 immigration judges. She was badly needed — the immigration court system has a backlog of some 3.7 million cases, with more piling up each day. As the hearing got underway, Doyle glanced down at her email and spotted a message in her inbox with an attachment called “Termination.” Days before she was to be sworn in at one of the busiest immigration courts in the country, Doyle was fired as part of the Trump’s administration’s first wave of mass

You’re Worrying About The Wrong EV Batteries

You’re Worrying About The Wrong EV Batteries

Many of you are worried about the long-term reliability of electric vehicle batteries. I know because you ask me all of the time. Among skeptics and prospective buyers alike, it’s one of the first things to come up: Will the battery last? Yet more and more data is showing that modern EV traction batteries just don’t fail in significant numbers. You don’t have to worry about them. It’s the damn 12-volts that’ll leave you stranded in the office parking lot. Internal combustion drivers know that risk. Traditional cars use a 12-volt battery—usually a chunky lead-acid unit—to start the vehicle and power the electronics. You may expect that EVs, with their massive drive batteries, don’t need these ancient bricks. Yet they rely on them for the exact same reasons. EV 12-volt

Japan launches non-nuclear submarine as aversion over atomic bombings lingers

Japan has commissioned one of the most advanced conventional submarines in the world, with the Raigei being the latest in a class of hunter-killer vessels designed to operate in the relatively shallow seas around the country. The diesel-electric Raigei – or Thunder Whale – was completed at Kawasaki Heavy Industry’s shipyards in Kobe and is the fourth vessel in the Japanese Maritime Self-Defence Force’s (MSDF) Taigei class of submarines. Its launch on Thursday also meets Japan’s maritime defence needs with its ability to conduct stealth operations in tight bodies of water and also reflects the country’s aversion to nuclear-powered submarines, according to analysts. At 84 metres from bow to stern, a displacement of 3,000 tons and a crew of 70, the Raigei has an ultra-quiet diesel-electric propulsion system that combines
