German Chancellor Olaf Scholz sacked his finance minister on Wednesday and said he will hold a parliamentary confidence vote in the government in January, triggering political chaos in Europe’s largest economy hours after Donald Trump won the US presidential election. After sacking Finance Minister Christian Lindner of the Free Democrats (FDP) party, Scholz is expected to head a minority government, either alone with his Social Democrats or with the Greens, the second-largest party, relying on cobbled-together parliamentary majorities. The collapse of Scholz’s three-way coalition caps months of wrangling over budget policy and Germany’s economic direction, with the government’s popularity sinking and far-right and far-left forces surging. “We need a government that is able to act, that has the strength to make the necessary decisions for our country,” Scholz told reporters.
The political party that made gains in regional polls is defended by its leaders while labelled ‘right-wing extremist’ by Germany’s security services. The far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) political party has said it will throw out three of its members who have been arrested on suspicion of having joined an “extremist” paramilitary group. The political party’s announcement comes after eight people were arrested and at least 20 properties were searched during a police operation on Tuesday. The operation targeted the Saxonian Separatists, a group authorities consider a domestic “terrorist organisation”. It was founded in November 2020 and is driven by racist ideology and conspiracy theories. Members had been training in warfare for the downfall of the modern German state before hundreds of police swooped on locations linked to it in

Featured Dickson Worlanyo Dotse Nov – 06 – 2024 , 16:21 The Speaker of Parliament, Alban S.K. Bagbin has described the current stand off in Parliament, and the matters before the Supreme Court as a collective attempt by the Judiciary and the executive to weaken the legislative arm of government. Speaking at a press conference in Accra Wednesday afternoon [Nov 6, 2024], to address the state of affairs of Ghana’s parliament, Mr Bagbin said Parliament was a repository of the sovereign will of the people. When Kamala Harris was confirmed as the Democratic candidate for the United States presidential election in August, she had hoped to become the first woman, first Indian American and the second African American to make it to the White House. Harris was expected to reverse a troubling trend for Democrats and win back Black voters, who had been drifting away from the party. Since then, her campaign has targeted Black voters in battleground states, often with the support of the country’s first Black president, Barack Obama. Yet as results in Tuesday’s election trickled in, a stunning fact emerged: It is Trump, not Harris, who gained support among Black voters compared with the 2020 election, as the former president won the White House. So how much support did Trump secure from Black
