Frontier Partners with Arbor Energy to Develop Revolutionary Carbon-Removing Power System
Frontier is backing Arbor Energy’s ambitious plan to build a “vegetarian rocket engine” that removes carbon dioxide while powering data centers. The innovative power plant draws direct inspiration from SpaceX’s rocket engine technology.
Arbor Energy has redesigned traditional rocket combustion principles to create a carbon-negative power generation system. Instead of burning fossil fuels, the company’s engine uses plant-based materials and atmospheric carbon dioxide as fuel sources. This approach reportedly generates electricity while actively removing CO2 from the atmosphere.
The partnership addresses two critical challenges facing the tech industry: rising energy demands from data centers and mounting pressure to reduce carbon emissions. Data centers currently consume approximately 1% of global electricity, with demand expected to triple by 2030.
Frontier, Stripe’s climate initiative, has committed to purchasing carbon removal credits from Arbor Energy’s pilot facility. The exact financial terms and timeline remain undisclosed, though the project is reportedly in early development stages.
Arbor Energy’s technology represents a significant departure from conventional carbon capture methods. Traditional systems typically require separate energy sources to power carbon removal processes. The company’s rocket-inspired design allegedly eliminates this energy penalty by generating power during the carbon removal process.
The pilot facility’s location and operational capacity have not been announced. Industry experts view the project as a potential breakthrough in combining renewable energy generation with active carbon dioxide removal.
