Prof. Gyampo Condemns Character Assassination, Calls for National Dialogue on Fake News
Political Science lecturer Prof. Ransford Gyampo issued a stark warning Tuesday about Ghana’s deteriorating public discourse, citing rampant character assassination as a threat to national service participation.
The Ghana Shippers Authority CEO condemned what he described as a “rising tide of character assassination” that actively discourages qualified citizens from pursuing public roles. Gyampo, known for his vocal stance on governance issues, said the toxic trend poses serious risks to Ghana’s democratic future.
“The trend discourages competent citizens from offering themselves for national service,” Gyampo stated, highlighting how personal attacks undermine civic engagement. He emphasized that such defamatory practices create barriers for potential leaders who might otherwise contribute to national development.
Despite facing recent character attacks himself, Gyampo declared he remains “unshaken” by the defamatory campaigns. However, he expressed deeper concern about the long-term implications for Ghana’s political culture and public service recruitment.
The professor’s statement comes amid growing concerns about misinformation and personal attacks in Ghana’s media landscape. His call for national dialogue addresses the urgent need to distinguish between legitimate criticism and destructive character assassination.
Gyampo’s intervention reflects broader worries among civic leaders about declining standards in public discourse. The statement underscores how toxic narratives potentially deprive Ghana of capable leadership by creating hostile environments for public service participation.
