Oleksandr Usyk has become the new undisputed heavyweight champion, but he will soon lose one of his belts. Usyk, aged 37, defeated Tyson Fury in a thrilling match in Saudi Arabia, with a split decision of 115-112, 113-114, 114-113. However, the International Boxing Federation (IBF) will strip Usyk of his title.

Filip Hrgovic, the IBF’s mandatory challenger, will not wait for the contracted rematch between Usyk and Fury. The IBF title will be vacant before the rematch, scheduled for October. Hrgovic will fight Daniel Dubois in June for the title. The winner will then face Anthony Joshua at Wembley in September.

It is unclear if the winner of the Usyk-Fury rematch will try to reclaim the IBF title. Usyk, currently holding all the titles, seems unfazed by the IBF’s decision. He has been in camp longer than expected due to the initial fight’s cancellation in February. Usyk’s only concern now is spending time with his family.

“I don’t think about boxing now, please,” Usyk told reporters when asked about a rematch. “My camp started in September 2023, I worked for nine months. I missed Happy New Year, I missed my son’s birthday, I missed my other son’s birthday, I missed my daughter’s birthday and then the birth of my daughter. I also missed family holidays. I was only focused on this fight, now I’m happy and I want to go back home.”
