A South Carolina woman was bitten by a nine-foot alligator while walking her dog on Monday night, police said.
The 68-year-old woman was walking her dog near a pond in Sun City at about 10 p.m. when the massive animal attacked her, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
The woman was bitten on her hand, wrist and leg, the police department said.
Alligator trappers that are contracted by the state were dispatched to the area and captured the alligator after it darted out of the pond, authorities said.
The animal was euthanized after it was captured.
The injured woman is recovering in a local hospital, police said.
