Lakers Hire Frank Vogel as Next Head Coach, Report Says

The Lakers have found their next head coach.

Los Angeles has decided to hire former Pacers and Magic head coach Frank Vogel, according to an ESPN report, which cites unidentified league sources. Former Bucks and Nets head coach Jason Kidd is expected to join him as a lead assistant.

The deal is reportedly for three years.

The Lakers reportedly favored former Cavaliers coach and longtime friend of superstar forward LeBron James for the job, but negotiations fell apart over a contract dispute.

Vogel led the Pacers to five playoff series in six years after being named Indiana’s interim coach in 2011. He was hired by Orlando in 2016 but was fired at the end of the 2017-18 season after posting a 54-110 record.
