When he was beginning to approach the monumental role of Elton John for Rocketman, Taron Egerton couldn’t have known that he and the star would eventually become fast friends. Now, following the film’s release, Egerton can call John a friend — and a collaborator.
On Thursday (June 13), John and Egerton released a music video for their charming duet, “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again,” written by John and Bernie Taupin for Rocketman. The colorful new video consists of shots both from archived footage of John’s career, along with clips of Egerton from the film. “I’m gonna love me again/ Check in on my very best friend,” the pair sing.
Their old and new footage is interspersed between different ’70s-style pop-art vignettes, along with John’s many album covers, promotional posters and occasional shots of the pair recording the song in the studio.
The new video comes on the heels of Rocketman’s release at the start of the month. The film has become an unequivocal success, maintaining an impressive 90 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes and surpassing $100 million at the box office last weekend.
