Chelsea’ 7-0 win over Norwich in Premier League

The Premier League leaders romped to a 7-0 win over last-place Norwich on Saturday, with absence of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner, while Mason Mount scored a hat trick goal.

This victory was a comfortable one for Chelsea in a performance more reminiscent of the width shown in the early days of Tuchel’s reign, but this was the next step in their evolution with an interchangeable formation.

With Lukaku and Werner, out for the short term ankle and hamstring injuries, respectively, injuries they sustained in the Champions League in midweek. And United States forward Christian Pulisic also with an ankle injury all missed the game but  their next two games are against lowly Newcastle and Burnley.

Mount opened the scoring for Thomas Tuchel’s side. And just from there it was one-sided dominance, as Chelsea sounded a warning shot in the League title race with a 7 – 0 win over a dismal opponent side in a victory that further undermines their strength in depth.

And Mount had a particularly good game as a support striker to Kai Havertz, starting and completing the scoring and his goals came in the eighth and 85th minutes and then in closing time while adding an assist for James’ goal with a defense-splitting pass for the wing back to chip goalkeeper Tim Krul.

Mount even had some fortune with his penalty. And his first attempt was saved by Krul, who was adjudged to have been off his line when making that save. However, Mount had another try and beat Krul down the middle.

So far, this season, Norwich have really wrestled to get points. And it’s fair to say that Daniel Farke’s men will be fighting to stay up. Against the bigger teams in the league, Norwich have struggled. Therefore, they were there for the win. With Farke’s side sticking the majority of his men in their own half, Chelsea had to find a way to get in behind Norwich’s backline.

And the defense for the blues were spot on once again.
