Carl Reiner, American Comedian Dies at 98

The actor, director, writer, and producer died of natural causes Monday night at his home in Beverly Hills.

America’s comedian, writer, director, and actor Reiner started as an actor and then stand up comedy. He directed several films including Steve Martin vehicles The Jerk (1979) and All of Me (1984).

Reiner also acted in films: The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming (1966) and directed more than a dozen movies, including four with Steve Martin.

Reiner was a writer alongside Woody Allen, Neil Simon and Mel Brooks, among others for the TV sketch comedy program, Your Show of Shows in 1950.

He was born in the Bronx in 1922 to parents who had emigrated from Europe. In 1943 he married cabaret singer Estelle Lebost. He leaves behind three children, artist Annie, artist Lucas, and actor and director Rob Reiner who is known for This is Spinal Tap, The Princess Bride, Stand By Me, A Few Good Men and When Harry Met Sally.
