
A lone gunman opened fire in an auditorium at Heidelberg University in south west Germany on Monday, injuring four people, German police reported.
The police said the gunman was in possession of a “long gun”, and began shooting while a lecture was taking place, before running outside.
The gun man who is described as a young man, police said is dead. And a spokesperson told Reuters they believe he committed suicide.
Police tweeted that that a large operation including emergency services was under way at the university’s campus in Neuenheimer Feld: “Police and emergency services are on the scene”.
It asked people to avoid the area so that rescue workers and emergency services are able to move around easily as they save lives.
